Laminated Heads

Please Note:
Laminated heads are made from off-cuts so no two heads will be the same. The above photographs are only a selection of possibilities.

All heads come with Tufnol endcaps and are polished to a high satin sheen using four layers of water resistant 'Danish Oil'.

** CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, also known as the Washington Convention) is a multilateral treaty to protect endangered plants and animals.

Many of the timber types I have used in the past have recently come under the CITES jurisdiction and have now become very expensive (up to 300% increase in the past 12 months), so much so that some timbers are now unavailable.

Length

The standard dimensions for a wooden head are 10" (25.4cm) long. Lengths of 9" (22.8cm), 11" (28.0cm) or 12" (30.5cm) head lengths are available.

Width

The standard width of a wooden mallet is 2 1/8" (5.4cm) wide but can be made to any width.

Shape

Most mallets are square in section but other shapes can be manufactured. The most common alternatives are;

  • Curved base
Boat shaped head
  • Rectangular section

Weighting

  • Peripheral weighting

All wooden headed mallets are weighted by inserting lead plugs behind the end plates, thus placing the maximum weight at the ends of the head. Please specify your desired total mallet weight.

  • Adjustable weighting
Adjustable weighting system

This system allows the player to easily adjust the weight of the mallet adding or removing any number of six lead discs, each weighing approximately 0.75ozs. It is only available for mallets with a carbon fibre shaft. Please specify your required base weight which will allow a change of weight of +/- 1.5ozs.

Shafts

A standard shaft length is 36" (91.4cm) with a cross section of 1" (2.5cm) x 1 1/8" (3cm) but any length or cross section can be made for a small surcharge.

Type

  • Ash Shafts

Produced from seasoned, straight-grained American Ash forming a strong, flexible shaft with amazing resilience to years of hard hitting, suitable for either beginners or world-class players. Ash shafts weigh approximately 13ozs and are fitted with a coloured tape grip of your choice, colours available are black, red, blue, yellow, silver & gold.

I am still the UK's largest supplier of wooden shafts for new and refurbished mallets.

  • Carbon Fibre Shafts

This lightweight material is extremely strong with immense torsional rigidity. The base of the tube is fitted with an attractive aluminium socket, which is fastened to the head with a 6 mm counter-sunk, 'Allen' keyed bolt. Each carbon fibre shaft is fitted with a choice of wood, Duplon or cork and now topped with a polished, hardwood cap. These lightweight grips allow more weight to be added to the head to provide a superior pendulum action.

  • Carbon Fibre/Wood (CF5)

An octagonal, hollow, straight-grained Pine handle fitted on the carbon fibre shaft. The handle is lightweight and very strong, giving the mallet a low centre of gravity with an easy swing and ideal for those players that prefer the feel of wood or a tape grip. This shaft weighs approximately 8oz (227g).

CF5 Shaft
  • Carbon Fibre/Duplon (CF7)

This carbon fibre shaft has no Duplon grip on the lower section and has an aluminium socket. This shaft is popular with Golf Croquet players. This shaft weighs approximately 5 1/2oz (156g).

CF7 Shaft
  • Carbon Fibre/Duplon (CF8)

A full-length carbon fibre tube fitted with a lightweight octagonally shaped Duplon foam handle. This shaft weighs approximately 6 1/2oz (184g). All these shaft types are removable, rotatable or changeable. Duplon available in black or maroon.

CF8 Shaft
CF10 Shaft with mauve handle
  • Carbon Fibre/Duplon (CF9)

Similar to the CF8 but with a full length Duplon grip.

CF6 Shaft
  • Carbon Fibre/Cork/Duplon (CF10)

A full-length carbon fibre tube fitted with either solid natural cork grip ('n') or re-mastered granular cork ('g') upper with a Duplon lower grip in the traditional style.

CF10 Shaft
  • Carbon Fibre/Cork/Duplon (CF11)

Similar to a CF10 (n or g) with a continuous lower Duplon lower grip.
